Join Jess - Shape up for 2010!
Get your workmates involved in a post Christmas fundraiser which will make you feel great in more ways than one! If, like many of us, you’re already thinking about how to shed a few extra pounds in January then why not use Saint Francis – your local hospice – for that extra bit of motivation?
All you need do is set your personal weight loss goal* and a fundraising target to aim for. Get a few colleagues to join in and you can support and compliment each other as you get healthier and trimmer together! It’s a very positive way to kick of the 2010 working year.
Jessica Collins Smith, who works for Barking and Dagenham Borough Council, is the inspiration behind our ‘shape up’ fundraising challenge:
“I’d been wanting to get fitter for a while now and because Saint Francis Hospice means the world to me I’m getting sponsored to lose weight. The hospice nurses were brilliant when my Nan died and I want to make sure that they’re there for other families in the future.”
Whether you shape up by yourself or as part of a team, don’t forget to get all your friends, family and colleagues involved by sponsoring you to success! To get sponsorship forms sent out to you please contact Lauren Josman on 01708 723593 or email laurenjosman@sfh.org.uk
NB: It is important that you seek medical advice about your healthy weight range and set your weight loss goal responsibly.
Give ‘little and often’ – Sponsor a Nurse
The start of a new year is a great time to look closely at your finances and plan ahead responsibly. As a hospice supporter I’m sure you want to continue helping local people affected by life limiting illness in a way that you can comfortably afford. You can now do precisely that by signing up to our Sponsor a Nurse scheme which starts from just £3 a month. In return we’ll give you a limited edition key ring, attractive car sticker and regular updates on our work.*
All of the details can be found at www.sfh.org.uk/how-you-can-help/donate/sponsor-a-nurse/. There are two ways to contribute. You can either set up a Direct Debit, which is very quick and easy, or have the amount deducted from your pay which will end up costing you even less. Yes that’s right, because payroll deductions come out of your gross salary, part of your donation is made up of taxes! For a standard rate tax payer this means that a £5 donation to the hospice only actually costs them £4.
We’d love you to sign up yourself, but it’s also a great thing to promote in your workplace because supporting Saint Francis brings people together. If you’d like someone from the hospice to talk to your staff or colleagues about payroll giving then please call Jane on 01708 753319 or email janeframe@sfh.org.uk. There’s even a government backed award scheme which your company could be eligible for it you get involved.
*Once you have signed up please email franceschuter@sfh.org.uk and she will send out your gift pack as soon as your first payment is received.

For your small investment Saint Francis Hospice offers five main benefits, but the most valuable are an entitlement to use our business partner statement and a listing on our website. Full details can be found at http://www.sfh.org.uk/how-you-can-help/business-partnerships/business-marketing-toolkit/). Although the scheme has only recently been launched twenty businesses of all types and sizes have signed up already. Gary Crowther of G&J Financial Services was the very first:
“To be honest my only question was why as little as £100! I know the commercial value of having your business name attached to the excellent reputation of Saint Francis – they help thousands of people every year and their name is everywhere. The marketing toolkit is such a great offer.”
To answer Gary’s question, our Marketing Toolkit is so reasonably priced because we want every local business to have the chance to support their local hospice.
