Go Yellow
Each Summer the Community Fundraising team runs the Go Yellow appeal, which encourages people at work, clubs, school or home to get involved in fundraising. Ideas include yellow-themed events like dress in yellow days, Tea@3 or a Great Cake Bake.
This year our theme is The Wizard of Oz and the Yellow Brick Road and we have several activities planned.
The Go Yellow - Yellow Brick Road Appeal
From 1st June until September we invite you to join us as we travel along the ‘Yellow Brick Road’. You will see us out and about in the community with our helpers Dorothy, The Tin Man, Scarecrow, Lion, The Wicked Witch and of course our very own Lion mascot ‘Frankie’ We are hoping our community will help us fill our pot raising £50K for vital patient services. We need your help – could you sell our merchandise or better still organise your own event themed on the colour yellow or the ‘Yellow Brick Road’
Look out for our ’Yellow Brick Road’ pin badges in your local shops, schools and surgeries. Please buy a brick and show others you are travelling along the ‘Yellow Brick Road’ with us because you really care about people in your community.
For further information or help with setting up your own event please just ring us in the Community Fundraising Office – we are waiting for your call and will be pleased to offer any help we can.
The Big Yellow Quiz

An incredible 1,006 people turned out to support our first Big Yellow Quiz, and although we narrowly missed out on a new Guinness World Record for the largest simultaneous quiz night the hospice was still a winner as just over £14,000 was raised. The money could pay for 46 patients to attend their weekly day hospice session and get access to the full range of hospice services to help them.
Havering Mayor Councillor Melvin Wallace, who is raising money for us during his year in office joined the main quiz at The Brentwood Centre along with Hospice Chief Executive Pam Court, who said: “I was delighted to attend the quiz, the atmosphere was fantastic and to have raised so much money while having such fun is a marvellous achievement.”
Lynda Head, our Community Fundraising Manager, was thrilled with the outcome as she only had seven weeks to put the event together and she said: “What an amazing feat, we had more than 1,000 patients, staff, volunteers and supporters come together for the quiz night, which shows the strength of support the community has for their local hospice. Many people have told us what an enjoyable evening they had and are looking forward to coming next year. Although we are disappointed not to have set a new record we are delighted with the turn-out and the enormous amount raised as £14,000 will make a real difference to the lives of the people we support.”
