How to raise sponsorship money
How can I raise sponsorship money?
This is the most common question we are asked. Don’t panic we have lots of ideas to help you, some are set out below.
1 Ask friends and family. This is where being on Facebook or Twitter really helps as no matter how far away they live you can still reach them. Better still set up an online donation site at either Just Giving or Virgin Money as the money is automatically credited to your account without the need to chase sponsors.
If you have a birthday, or special occasion coming up ask for sponsorship rather than presents. How many bottles of bubble bath or scented candles does a girl need?
2 Does your company do matched funding? Ask your employer if they have a scheme where they will match what you raise. If they do not already then suggest that this might be a good time to start.
3 Hold an event to raise money. This does not have to be ambitious; a coffee morning or cheese and wine evening. Or-
- Hold a cake sale at work
- Organise a donation dinner – your version of ‘Come dine with me’
- How about a dress down day at work or maybe your boss would auction off a day’s extra leave.
- Ask a local restaurant if they will do you a special deal for a set menu. Add a percentage on and then invite your friends. The ‘profit’ goes towards your sponsorship and you all have a great time. (Please let your friends and restaurant know that this is what you are planning to do!).
- Organise a quiz night
- How about a car boot sale?
- A swap shop evening. Charge an entrance fee and ask friends and family to bring unwanted clothes, shoes, handbags and gifts. Everyone will go home with a new outfit and you will have raised sponsorship money.

The most important thing is to set a target. This will give you a real focus to aim for and a great sense of satisfaction when it is reached or even exceeded.
