One in three lives are touched by hospice care.

Care At The Hospice
At Saint Francis Hospice we are fortunate enough to have a lovely building set in peaceful surroundings with beautiful award winning gardens. But our Hospice is about far more than the building – it’s about people.
Our aim is to provide patients with holistic care and in order to do this we have a team of professionals from many disciplines, including therapists, counsellors, chaplains and, of course, medical staff. So we don’t just look at controlling the symptoms of your illness; we also offer emotional, social and spiritual support and guidance.
Inpatient Care
Whilst you are an inpatient at Saint Francis Hospice you will receive the highest standards of care from our professional teams of:
- Doctors
- Nurses
- Occupational Therapists
- Physiotherapists
- Complementary Therapists
- Family Support Services
- Chaplains
You will be involved in the care you receive and in planning for the future, as will your family and carers. We always take into account your wishes and will be ready to answer questions about your illness and your care.
Our 22-bed inpatient unit provides specialist palliative care, which means that we help control the symptoms of your illness and provide you with physical and emotional care as you approach the end of your life.
Day Care
Our day care unit takes up to 17 patients each day from Monday to Friday. You will be made to feel welcome from the moment you step foot in our lovely building, where our staff will be waiting to put you at your ease. Whilst you are with us you will have access to our multi-disciplinary team of medical and nursing staff, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, support workers and chaplains.
Your day with us will be relaxed and informal. Lunch, drinks and snacks are provided throughout the day. We have a wide range of activities and crafts but there is no rigid programme; it’s up to you to choose the activities in which you would like to participate. There is a computer available for your use, a television and Wii games, as well as board games and cards, or you may simply choose to read a book or relax in the company of others living with an end of life illness. Hairdressing and bathing facilities are also available and of course you can talk to our team of healthcare professionals. At various times of the year, such as Christmas, we organise special events and entertainment.
Day care services are provided entirely free of charge thanks to the generosity of the organisations and individuals who support Saint Francis Hospice.
