Appeal for help from nail technicians

Appeal for help from nail technicians

The fundraising team at Saint Francis Hospice are appealing nail technicians to donate an evening and provide treatments at their Indulgence Evening, helping to raise funds for the charity.

The popular evening is held at the Pepperell Education Centre at the hospice in Havering-atte-Bower, and will offer taster sessions of therapeutic and beauty treatments, including shoulder massage, reflexology, reiki and manicures between 5 and 9.30pm on Friday 23 May.

Around 250 people attend the evenings, raising around £3,500 for the charity. Therapists would be required to offer 15 minute sessions of manicures or pedicures throughout the evening, and are able to distribute their business cards and leaflets to the clients.

Complementary therapy is a key part of the services offered to patients living with a life limiting illness. Both patients and their carers can have treatments such as massage, aromatherapy or acupuncture, in the complementary therapy room at the hospice, at their home or at their bedside.

Ken Snell is a volunteer for the complementary therapy service, and will be volunteering at the Indulgence Evening. Working as a reflexologist for 11 years, he started volunteering for the hospice after a friend became a patient. While he was ill, Ken regularly carried out reflexology on his feet, and could really see the benefits, and decide to volunteer once his friend had died.

He said:  “I find there is so much love in the hospice it’s phenomenal. Every time Wednesday comes around I open my eyes and say yes! It gives me such a buzz working here.”

Fundraiser Lauren Josman said: “I would love to hear from you if you work in the beauty industry or in complementary therapies and you are willing to give up an evening of your time to help your local charity. It is a superb evening, with a range of treatments, as well as stalls for visitors to browse, and there is lovely, calm atmosphere. Please get in touch if you are interested in helping out.”
