Barkingside resident becomes hospice’s 2nd lottery winner

17 October 2011

Gloria Saville of Barkingside, Ilford could not believe her luck when she got a phone call to say she had won first prize of £1,000 in the Saint Francis Hospice weekly lottery draw.  Gloria who is 80 years old and a retired fundraiser for Jewish Care said “I was so shocked, I have supported the hospice for years since friends of mine were cared for at Saint Francis Hospice.  I always buy their raffle tickets, so when I got a letter about their new lottery I thought what a great way to support them.  I paid for a year upfront, but I never expected to win anything.  This is a really lovely surprise, I have never won anything before.”

This could not have come at a better time for Gloria, as her partner died 4 weeks ago.  “When they told me on the phone it was good news I said it is about time I had some good news, I really can’t believe I have won!”

Gloria is going to use her winnings to treat herself and her family who are going on holiday next week to Italy.  “My daughter is taking me away for a week as the last few weeks have been very hard for me.  I will use the money to make it a holiday to remember.”

Second prize was not won and therefore rises to £1,500 making it bigger than the first prize.

It costs £7.2 million a year to run the Hospice, which provides a variety of services throughout West Essex, Brentwood, Havering, Barking and Dagenham and Redbridge.

Players can buy up to 20 chances a week, and can pay by direct debit, cheque or card.  Sign up today and help your local hospice whilst giving yourself the chance to be £1,000 better off.
