Brentwood Mayor helps launch Wags and Tails
12 July 2011

The Brentwood Mayor, Saint Francis Hospice staff and supporters along with their four-legged friends have launched a new fundraising event for the charity – Wags and Tails sponsored dog walk.
Brentwood Mayor Councillor Joan Holmes joined the hospice’s new Chief Executive Pam Court and staff at the launch in Brentwood High Street on Tuesday (July 5th). Councillor Holmes took along her Schnauzer Abbi and hopes to set walkers on their way at the event said: “I think the dog walk is a good idea and it’s nice to have it in Brentwood. I’m supporting Saint Francis Hospice this year as one of my charity’s and hope to raise funds and awareness about the specialist care it provides to people affected by life-limiting illness in their homes and at the hospice.”
The Wags and Tails walk covers 3.5k and will take place in Ingatestone Hall, Ingatestone, on Sunday 25th September. Each dog taking part will receive a medal, certificate and goody bag and there will be a display from the Billericay Dog Display team, a demonstration from dog trainer Charlotte Wagner from Canine Paws Academy, a fly ball display from TOP DOG trainers and the opportunity for a portrait of your pooch by dog photographer Paul Miller.
The Brentwood Mayor will be setting walkers on their way on the day, and Lord Petre will also be attending.
Event organiser Lauren Josman said: “Our new Wags and Tails walk in Brentwood is an ideal opportunity for dog owners to get out with their pets and friends and family to enjoy a scenic walk and raise much needed funds for their local hospice. We’d like as many people and their four-legged friends to join us as possible.
Money raised will go towards Saint Francis Hospice’s work providing specialist care and support to people affected by cancer, heart disease and other life-limiting illness, free of charge, both at the hospice and in patients’ homes.”
Places on the morning sponsored walk must be booked in advance and are £5 per person or £3 for under 10s, who must be accompanied by an adult. To book call 01708 771405 or click here for more information.
