Businesses boosted by our networking seminar

Business owners and employees welcomed the opportunity to network and learn more about making social network sites like Facebook and Twitter work for them at an event we hosted.

Delegates from small and medium sized businesses such as a jewellery designer and media and creative companies attended the free Business Seminar which was sponsored by Time FM, design and creative agency Decoder and printing firm Icon, in our Pepperell Education Centre.

They were able to network over lunch and look around the meeting and training facilities provided within the education centre, which can hold up to 100 people and features laptops, interactive projectors and video-conferencing facilities.

Visitors then benefitted from a presentation by Howard Lake, founder of UK Fundraising and an expert in using the internet to raise funds.

Tony Roovers, from the Cumberland Bedding Co in Dagenham, who attended the seminar, said: “I knew of the hospice, but wasn’t aware of the education centre, which impressed me as being a modern, well-equipped facility. The seminar was really beneficial as I got to meet business people that I wouldn’t normally see and got some good tips from Howard Lake, in fact we are now promoting our business through Flikr as a result.”

Queen Clifton, from Hornchurch-based swimming pool installation firm Centurion Leisure, said “The education centre was in a lovely location and the seminar was very good as I was interested to see how Twitter and Facebook could work for our business.”

Event organiser Esther Wakeman, Hospice Marketing Manager, said: “Social network sites such as Facebook have really improved the way we communicate with supporters and new contacts and we were pleased to share our experiences at the business seminar.  The event was a great success and a wonderful opportunity for us to showcase the wonderful range of facilities on offer at our education centre.”

With the recent disruption to air travel due to volcanic ash and the possibility of strike action by airlines, which could impact on planned business meetings and trips we are reminding companies that we have video conferencing facilities and meeting rooms for hire.
