Celebrate and remember loved ones through Light up a Life
23 November 2011

Celebrate, reflect and remember the lives of your loved ones this Christmas through Light up a Life.
Light up a Life is open to everyone and invites you to attend a service with carols and a chance to light a candle in memory those no longer with us. In addition you can dedicate a light in memory of someone special and make a donation to the Hospice.
Your donations will help us provide specialist care, free of charge, to local people affected by life-limiting illness such as cancer, heart failure and dementia. Patients like April Flint, who has cancer for the second time and benefits by attending Day Hospice. April said: “Saint Francis Hospice has such a positive and friendly atmosphere. I like doing the creative things, but the medical team have also helped sort out my treatment options and get me on the right medication.”
Chaplain Graham Laut said: “Our Light up a Life services are very powerful and generally held in places of worship where countless numbers of people have prayed over the years. To these places we bring our memories of the people we have loved but no longer see and to commend them to God’s love and care. We also give thanks for those who have been companions and carers along the way especially at Saint Francis Hospice. Light up a Life is part of the spiritual and emotional support we provide to the families and friends of patients to bring them comfort. ”
There are seven services in churches, a synagogue and shopping centre, where people can come together to celebrate, reflect and remember their loved ones.
One of the people who attended a service last year said: “Light up a Life gave me and my family the opportunity to remember Dad and support Saint Francis Hospice, which was our rock during a difficult time, with the care we received.”
The services, which are ticketed events due to limited space, will be held on:
• Sunday 4th December: St Margaret’s Church, Barking; Brentwood Cathedral and St Thomas’ Church, Brentwood.
• Tuesday 6th December (evening): Trinity Methodist Church, Romford and Gants Hill Methodist Church, Ilford.
• Saturday 10th December (morning): a new service at South West Essex & Settlement Reform Synagogue, Ilford
• Wednesday 14th December (evening): The Liberty Shopping Centre, Romford.
