Five-year-old fundraiser bakes for hospice
11 April 2011

A five-year-old fundraiser from Rainham has been busy baking pink fairy cakes to raise money for the hospice. Caitlin Turner made 50 cupcakes, dusted them with pink sparkles and marshmallows, then sold them to neighbours and fireman who work nearby.
“They were the most popular with the fireman,” said Caitlin. “They even gave me some sweets from their secret stash afterwards.”
Caitlin has raised £81 for the hospice, and hopes to bake some more. Her nanny, Olive Turner, is currently receiving care from hospice nurses in their home, which they share with her mother Gail, her father Andy and her baby sister Lucie. Olive has always lived in the community, so Gail said everyone was very giving when Caitlin knocked at their door.
“Everyone round here knows Olive, so they were all very generous,” she said. “I’m very proud of Caitlin for raising this money for the charity.”
Caitlin soon turns six, and hopes to have a strawberry pink cake on her birthday.
Caitlin has proved how simple it is to join the Great Cake Bake and raise funds for the hospice. Click here to find out more about the Great Cake Bake.
