Football club to kick-off hospice partnership by promoting lottery

Dagenham & Redbridge Football Club is kicking-off its partnership to support Saint Francis Hospice with a mascot race and promotion of the charity’s new lottery at an upcoming home game.

This season Dagenham & Redbridge Football Club will strengthen its links with us and raise funds for patient care as part of The Football League’s official charity partnership with Help the Hospices, a national charity that supports UK hospice care.

The partnership will be launched at the club’s match with Torquay at 3pm on Saturday 27th August and Saint Francis Hospice nurse Theresa Gater will lead players onto the pitch and place the football ready for kick-off.

Match-goers will be able to sign up to our new lottery, which gives people the chance to win a guaranteed first prize of £1,000 each week with a second prize of £500, which rolls over to a maximum of £25,000 if not won and 10 third prizes of £10. Everyone who signs up to the lottery at the game will be entered into a prize draw to win a football signed by the Dagenham & Redbridge team.

In addition there will be a mascot race featuring the club’s Digger the Dog, Frankie the Lion from the Hospice and hopefully the visiting team’s mascot Gilbert the Gull.

Maria Tillet-Hayes, Hospice Marketing Executive, said: “Like in football, you never know what’s around the corner in life – and you never know when you or someone you know might need hospice care. With Dagenham & Redbridge’s support to help raise funds and awareness, the hospice can continue helping local people with a life-limiting illness live well until they die by providing physiotherapy and pain relief to a listening ear and its other specialist services.”

Paul Gwinn, a Director of Dagenham & Redbridge FC, said: “The hospice has touched the lives of so many people locally with its vital care. We already support the charity by hosting a Santathon fun run each Christmas and look forward to working closer with the hospice this season to raise more funds for patient care.”

The first weekly Saint Francis Hospice lottery draw takes place on October 7th and each number costs £1 a week and people can have up to 20 numbers, for which they sign up for 13, 26 or 52 weeks.

If people sign up by the 7th September by Direct Debit or 30th September by card or cheque, not only will they be entered into the first draw, they will also be in with a chance of winning this amazing Fortnum & Mason hamper worth £500
