Grand draw proves just the ticket

A couple couldn’t believe their luck when told they had won top prize of a car in our Christmas draw.

John Eastell was presented with the Ford Fiesta by hospice fundraising team member Kathy Hardy on Tuesday 26th January at Allen Ford in Brentwood.

Mr Eastell said: “My wife Christine and I like to do our bit to support Saint Francis Hospice and normally take part in their prize draws. I was surprised when I was told we had won the car, I thought it was marvellous news after Christmas.

“We’ve supported hospices for nearly 50 years after I was impressed with the excellent care my uncle received. Saint Francis Hospice provides such a positive and relaxed atmosphere for patients and their families to be supported while coping with a life limiting illness. The range of care provided to people in their own homes is incredible and I’m sure makes a difference to patients who wish to stay at home or are too poorly to travel to appointments.”

The draw also gave hospice supporters the chance to win cash prizes of between £50 and £2,000 in addition to the car, worth nearly £10,000 and kindly donated to the charity by the trustees of the estate of the late hospice supporter Elsie Pepperell.

One cash winner, Barbara Keen, whose mum Iris received our care before she sadly died of cancer in 2002, said: “I was over the moon to learn I had won, particularly as my partner is out of work at the moment. I’ve supported the hospice for a few years now, it’s a fantastic cause.

“The care my mum received as an inpatient was wonderful, we just couldn’t have coped without it. The medical team made her comfortable and she tried things she had never done such as a Jacuzzi bath and manicures.”

Esther Wakeman, Direct Marketing and Fundraising Executive, who organised the draw, said “We would like to congratulate all the winners and thank everyone for supporting the raffle. Your generosity has raised a wonderful £67,000 for patient care.”
