Havering Mayor's wine tasting night a success
07 November 2011

Wine and cheese lovers enjoyed a night of tasting and fun at the Havering Mayor’s Wine Tasting Evening in support of the Hospice.
The event, held at our Education Centre on November 3rd, attracted over 80 wine enthusiasts with wines kindly donated by the Colchester Wine Company and cheese provided by Waitrose Upminster.
Guests including the Mayor of Havering, Councillor Melvin Wallace and two guest Mayors, were challenged to showcase their expertise by identifying a range of wines through blind taste-testing.
Cllr Wallace said: "I loved the wine tasting evening there was a wonderful turnout, although I wasn’t any good with the wine!’
Five guests also walked away with luxury raffle prizes including a box of Champagne, gift hampers and chocolates.
The event raised over £2,000 and Rochelle Hodds, Community Fundraiser, said: "We are delighted that our Mayor has chosen Saint Francis Hospice as his charity of the year. It was a pleasure to host his charity wine and cheese tasting and we hope to hold more wine and cheese tasting events in the future."
