Hospice requires new trustee
22 October 2009
Saint Francis Hospice, Havering-atte-Bower, Romford – New trustees
Saint Francis Hospice has been providing care to people with life limiting illnesses in Havering, Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge, Brentwood and other villages in South West Essex for 25 years. We are a dynamic and forward thinking hospice, always looking to improve and develop the fully integrated multi-disciplinary services we provide to over 4,000 people a year. The hospice has a 22 bedded inpatient facility and therapeutic day centre, but also works extensively in the community via our Hospice at Home and community palliative care teams. In addition we have a busy education centre which provides an extensive training programme for a range of professional care providers. We are a charity funded by voluntary donations and the NHS, and a company limited by guarantee. The hospice employs around 240 staff and has over 800 volunteers supporting our work both in the hospice and in our 15 shops.
We are now seeking new Trustees to join our Council of Management which is responsible for governing the hospice and planning its future direction with our Director team. There are 5 formal meetings each year, but we would expect Trustees to become involved in other sub committees as appropriate, and to be able to support a variety of events throughout the year. The role is extremely worthwhile and very rewarding – providing an opportunity to be fully involved in ensuring that our patients continue to get the high standard quality care they deserve.
We are particularly seeking to strengthen the Board with Trustees with the following experience:
- Current or very recent clinical experience, who live within our catchment area and have a passion for end of life care.
- a legal background
- Business management skills
- IT or Information
In addition we are looking for someone with retail management experience, preferably in the voluntary sector, to join our Shops Company Board of Directors.
These are voluntary posts.
For more information, a role description and the opportunity to have an informal visit to the hospice/shops, please contact Sheena Rendell, PA to the Chairman, on 01708 771432. Closing date for applications is end of January 2010.
