Join the Great Cake Bake

Join the Great Cake Bake
With spring around the corner, and hopefully a rise in temperature, Saint Francis Hospice is suggesting that you celebrate by organising a Great Cake Bake. As part of their Go Yellow campaign, you could don your apron and get baking, or buy some tasty treats to sell at school or in the office.

Lynda Head, community fundraiser said: “Cupcakes are loved by everyone, and it can be an easy way of raising vital funds for our work by asking for a donation to the hospice.”

Staff, volunteers and patients gathered in the day hospice for a Great Cake Bake, enjoying tea with a selection of delicious yellow cakes. It was patient Jacqueline Short’s first visit to the day hospice, which provides 17 patients each day, who are living with a life limiting illness, an environment to relax and socialise, as well as giving them access to medical care, physiotherapy and complementary therapy, completely free of charge.

Jacqueline, from Hornchurch, has lung cancer. She said: “What great timing, having my first day at the same time as the Great Cake Bake! Everyone has been really kind here, and I am already looking forward to my next visit.”

Go Yellow is Saint Francis Hospice’s summer campaign, encouraging you to have fun in the sun with friends, family or colleagues by holding a fundraising event. There are plenty of ways to get involved, each one a simple, easy and enjoyable way to support your local adult hospice. Ideas include holding a tea or garden party, dress in yellow day or yellow-themed cake sale. The community fundraising team will help you with ideas and support.

The Havering Friends of Saint Francis Hospice have got behind Go Yellow, and are holding a coffee and hot cross bun morning on Friday 15th April at North Street Halls in Hornchurch. From 10.15am and for an admission fee of £1, you can enjoy the delicious treats on offer, and there will be stalls to browse and a raffle.

Alternatively, there is also Go Yellow merchandise available for a suggested donation of £1 and the hospice is looking for businesses, schools and other venues to sell them. If you know somewhere such as a dentist, doctor’s surgery or office please contact the fundraising team with a name of the venue and they will do the rest.
