Morrisons goes yellow for hospice care
19 May 2010

Morrisons in Dagenham will be pulling out all the stops to raise a smile and vital funding for Saint Francis Hospice through a charity of the year partnership that has just been launched.
As part of a UK-wide campaign between Morrisons and the hospice movement, which is supported by Help the Hospices - every Morrisons store has been teamed up with their local hospice and the shop in Wood Lane, Becontree Heath will be raising money for Saint Francis Hospice.
Our mascot Frankie the Lion and nurse Pauline Underwood joined Morrisons staff on Wednesday 19th May, to launch the partnership by making the first £1 donation in a collection box.
The store is supporting our Go Yellow campaign and will have pens and jelly sweets on display for a suggested donation of £1. It will also have collection boxes for shoppers to make donations throughout the partnership and staff are hoping to hold other events, including entering a team in our Star Trek midnight walk on July 3rd.
Rochelle Hodds, Hospice Community Fundraiser, said “We’re delighted to have the support of Morrisons. Like them Saint Francis Hospice is at the heart of the community and about providing first class services with the specialist care and emotional support we offer thousands of local people affected by life-limiting illness each year.”
She continued: “On average it costs us £50 per hour to provide vital nursing care to a patient in their own homes, and the money raised by Morrisons will make a huge difference to the services we provide.”
Linda Danbury, Personnel Manager at the store, said: “We are pleased to do something for our community where we can see the benefits of our fundraising.”
Angus Maciver, Morrisons Group Marketing and Communications Director, said: “Each year we ask our colleagues to nominate a charity that we will help ‘Raise a Smile’ and for 2010 we are really pleased that Help the Hospices was the resounding choice.”
Morrisons and Help the Hospices hope the 10-month partnership will raise £1 million for UK hospice care.
