Paul Freedman - hospice celebrity!
15 April 2011

We have a very special runner taking part in the London Marathon for us this year. 86-year-old Paul Freedman is officially the oldest person taking part in the London Marathon this year and it will be his 14th marathon for the hospice.
Paul is starting to have a cult following! His inspiring story has secured the hospice some incredible publicity over the past few days. On Wednesday he was on BBC news. Today he has been in a number of national papers, including The Metro, The Mirror, The Telegraph and the Small World News service.
All this coverage has seen an influx of donations and messages of support on Paul's Just Giving page, from people who have read his story and decided to sponsor him. Tune into the BBC’s coverage of the marathon on Sunday, as the BBC film crew are aiming to spot him and chat to him at a few stages of the run. We are thrilled, and can’t wait to cheer him along on Sunday. Go Paul!!
If you are going into London to watch the marathon on Sunday then feel free to join us at the Saint Francis Hospice cheering station and give Paul a cheer on his way as he aims to finish the marathon in under 6 hours this year.
We’ll be based at the 23rd mile opposite a pub call the Liberty Bounds from 10.30am onwards….. its near Tower Hill Tube Station and there are toilets/cafes nearby. Look out for our hospice banners, flags and pom poms.W
We also have an amazing Marry-thon couple - Katrina Scaife and Andrew Ford, who are getting hitched as they run on Sunday! Read their story here.
