Staff and supporters celebrate New Year in style

Hospice Staff and supporters celebrated the start of 2012 in style by joining in the New Year’s Day Parade in London and collected donations for patient care.

Collier Row Community Group organised the Havering delegation at the New Year’s Day Parade and Havering Mayor Councillor Melvin Wallace kindly invited us to join in as he is supporting during his year in office.

Our representatives walked the 2 mile route from Piccadilly to Parliament Street and collected nearly £900 for patient care through the generous donations of people who turned out to watch the parade – a crowd of around 500,000.

The parade involved more than 8,000 people from around the world including cheerleading squads and marching bands, who entertained spectators. Among the Havering delegation was Havering Majorettes and I love to Salsa dance crew who entertained crowds, the Lurcher Rescue Society with some dogs and members of Collier Row Community Group, who dressed as famous kings and queens such as Henry VIII, a Pearly King and the Queen of Hearts.

Our Chief Executive Pam Court was among the hospice staff who enjoyed the 26th New Year’s Day Parade and she said: “This was the first time I have been to the New Year’s Day Parade and there was a good turnout and real sense of fun. It was an enjoyable day and I’d like to thank the Mayor of Havering for inviting us to join him at this popular event and everyone involved who volunteered their time and skills.”
