Support and information programme for people with motor neurone disease
Saint Francis Hospice in Havering-atte-Bower, Essex and the Motor Neurone Disease Association have been working on a new initiative entitled ‘A Foot in the Door’, which encourages earlier access to palliative care services.
The ten-week support and information programme, for people at an early stage of motor neurone disease and their carer(s), provides information on common problems associated with MND for the person with MND and their carer, and a separate support programme for carers. It also provides a gentle introduction to hospice services.
The initiative is funded by the Department of Health’s ‘Innovation excellence and service development’ grant and previous programme participants and their carers have contributed to a DVD, sharing their experiences, to raise awareness of the programme and how valuable it was for them.
For further information, or a free copy of the DVD, email Nicola Stananought
