Getting quizzical for hospice
Fresh from organising a fundraising walk from Brentwood to Billericay, 21-year-old Hayley Rossiter has helped organise another event that helped raise vital funds for a local charity.
She and Will Lloyd organised a charity quiz night that was held at Brentwood County High School, the former school of both Hayley and Will on Friday 18th September. Over 120 people attended and more than £2,000 was raised on the night thanks to entry fees and a raffle.
Hayley, from the Sales Support team at Brightstar based in Billericay, organised the fundraising events as a thank-you for the care Saint Francis Hospice gave her grandmother Marion Tracey from Romford.
Hayley's grandmother was first diagnosed with bowel cancer in the mid-90s and had surgery and treatment and recovered until a test in January 2013 showed that the cancer had returned. When her health deteriorated she was referred to Saint Francis Hospice for care.
Hayley said: "My grandmother always wanted to be admitted to Saint Francis Hospice and she arrived on Christmas Eve 2013. She spent two weeks as an inpatient and then was able to return home where she sadly died a fortnight later."
"I'm very passionate about fundraising for the charity and when we organised this event we were hoping it would go well - but we didn't realise quite how successful it would be! I'd like to say a big "thank you" to all the financial institutions that Brightstar work with who sponsored the rounds in the quiz, and to Brightstar who are going to match what we raised on the night bringing the total to over £4,000!"
Linda Borg from the fundraising team at Saint Francis Hospice said: "Once again Hayley has come up trumps for our hospice with another superb effort that has raised a huge sum to help fund our nurses and doctors. I know that Hayley is already working on more fundraising events and we are so grateful to her and her colleagues at Brightstar for all that they do to support our work."
