There was a buzz along the High Street in Brentwood this week as snooker legend Steve Davis officially opened Saint Francis Hospice's new department-style shop.

Steve, who is a six-time world snooker champion, cut the ribbon on Tuesday 15th June before spending time chatting with staff, volunteers and shoppers.

And Steve took his support even further by pledging to donate some of his snooker cues to help raise money for local people who need the Hospice's experienced care now and in the future.

"It is a privilege to be part of this vital local charity and I am delighted to be opening the doors of their newest shop in Brentwood," said Steve, who is one of the Hospice's patrons.

"Hopefully people will have had time for a house clear out during the lockdowns and will be itching to donate their pre-loved goods - I will be donating a few snooker cues I no longer have use for!

"This is important - If we want Saint Francis Hospice to be there for people in the future, we have to make sure we are there for it now - and what an easy way to do it.

"Every donation and every purchase made helps local people in need of hospice care.

"So do drop by and see what this fantastic new store has to offer."

A new, bigger store for Brentwood

Opening

The charity shop, which replaces the Hospice's clothing and furniture shops that were along the High Street, promises a department store feel, selling a wide range of pre-loved treasures from furniture, household items and media to children's toys, clothing and accessories. Customers will also love the collection of beautiful every day cards by the designer Ling which are on sale at fabulous prices.

"There was a real need to have a bigger store in Brentwood and we are so lucky to have such great support from the Brentwood community," said Michelle Nicholls, Commercial and Safety Director.

"We're also really excited as this is our most technically advanced store. There is a podium in-store where shoppers and supporters can access the Hospice website and find out more about how we care and support people who are seriously ill, as well how they can get involved in fundraising and supporting the charity.

"Our friendly team can't wait to meet and serve our customers. We promise a warm welcome and they won't be disappointed by our high-quality goods for sale."
