My job involves sharing with people their end of life journey. I form a therapeutic relationship which allows the person to feel safe and share their thoughts and feelings at such a time when their whole world has been turned upside down. I also counsel family and friends pre and post bereavement.
I love group work and our walking group is a wonderful example of how much exercise can help our mental health. Our writing and talking group enables people to write their feelings down when it’s been too difficult to say them out loud. Our music and ‘This is your life’ group gives people a chance to tell their story.
I do this job because I believe in the holistic approach of palliative care, I care deeply for our patients and families. I meet the most inspiring people whose strength in adversity knows no bounds.
