1 in 3 people will be touched by hospice care

Frequently Asked Questions
How much does it cost to join in?
There is a £15 registration fee per walker. This covers our costs and ensures that all the sponsorship money raised goes where it is needed – to our patients and their families.
In return all walkers will receive a limited edition T shirt, medal and a goody bag.
How can I sign up?
You can sign up and pay online, just follow the link. Alternatively, if you contact the Fundraising Office on 01708 723593 we can send you a registration form. Once you have paid you will be sent a sponsor pack and T shirt and all the information you need to make your fundraising really work.
Can I bring my friends?
Yes please! We want as many female walkers as possible on the night. Each team member needs to fill in their own form but put the team name on the form and nominate a leader for your group in case we need to get in touch.
Can I bring my dog?
Sorry, we cannot accommodate any dogs on the walk apart from guide dogs.
What do I wear?
The age old question for women! Please wear your exclusive Star Trek T shirt which you can customise any way you like. After that it is up to you. Last year we had a team of cheerleaders, sunflowers, bumble bees, can can girls. Imaginations ran wild so really go for it, but just make sure you can walk comfortably in your chosen outfit. For inspiration why not visit one of our charity shops!
How much do I have to raise?
There is no minimum amount that we ask you to raise however, every penny you do raise go towards patient care. Last year each walker raised an average of £100 with lots of employers £ matching the sponsorship. If you are worried about raising sponsorship please look at the section titled how to raise sponsorship.

Can I hand my sponsorship in on the night?
Please do not bring your sponsorship money with you. We do not have the facilities on the night to deal with large amounts of money securely. Please send your sponsorship money into the: Fundraising Department, Saint Francis Hospice, The Hall, Havering-atte- Bower, Romford, Essex. RM4 1QH by 30th September.
However, do bring a few pounds to spend on our goodies. Following the success of our star headdresses last year we have got wands and headdresses this year. Everything a girl needs to make her feel special.
How far do I have to walk?
The route is 10km long and is based on a 2km circuit so you can stop anytime you want. This is not a race and most walkers complete the route in about 2 hours.
The route is fully marshalled and is suitable for wheelchair users. There will be plenty of loos on route.
Where do we start and finish?
Our friends at The Liberty are allowing us to use the shopping centre as our registration point for the night. The walk will start and finish there; alas the shops will be shut.
Where can I park?
Havering Council are very kindly opening up Como Street car park and the Town Hall car park for us. You will not be able to park in the Market Square as this is part of the route and would be a hazard.
Entertainment on the night
Time FM will be there to provide some pumping sounds to keep spirits high and set the mood. They may be additional surprises so watch this space.
Personal belongings
Unfortunately there will not be a cloakroom available so please remember that any bags or belongings you might bring need to be carried on the walk. We will be supplying one ½ litre bottle of water per walker but you might want to carry more with you.
Other halves
Although the walk is women only your other half is welcome to come and cheer you on. If they would like to volunteer to help on the night then please contact the fundraising team on 01708 723593. All help is gratefully accepted.
Minimum Age
The minimum age for walkers is 13 years old on the day of the walk. All walkers aged 16 years and under must be accompanied by an adult walker.
Will there be First Aid available?
In the unlikely event of an accident we have St John’s Ambulance in attendance. All of the marshals are first aid trained and are linked by radio mike so you are never more than 50 metres away from assistance. We have a rapid response car who will come out and pick you up and return you to the Liberty Centre.
Do I need to train?
The Star Trek is intended to be a fun walk and is there are no major obstacles to negotiate. However, 10km is a reasonable walk to undertake if you are not a regular exerciser so it would be a good idea to do a few practice walks to break in your trainers and socks. Wear your ‘Star Trek’ T shirt to drum up some sponsors and more walkers.
What time should I arrive?
Please do not come to register before 10pm. There will be plenty of fun stuff going on to keep you entertained between then and the start time.
