Our nurses care for 500 in-patient and make 5,000 home visits each year

Who does the money I raise help?

Every penny of the money you raise will go towards providing patients and their families with world class care here in the local community.
- £20 - Art therapy materials are essential for our Day Hospice. Art is more than a pleasant distraction it also helps patient relax and express themselves to work through difficult feelings.
- £35 - a Feel good massage. For most of us a relaxing massage is a self-indulgent ‘treat’. However, a massage from one of our qualified complementary therapists – either in a patient’s home or at the hospice – can alleviate the symptoms of a life limiting illness. Human contact is also important at a time when the severity of someone’s illness can otherwise seem overwhelming.
- £40 - A play therapy session. Our fully qualified chid support worker helps the children and grandchildren tackle the pain of bereavement. Play therapy is important as it creates a supportive environment in which children can express their thoughts an tackle their fears with a little help and direction.
- £50 a visit - Our physiotherapists and occupational therapist work with patients’ both in the hospice and in their own homes. Both help to reduce pain and help our patients maintain mobility so that they can continue living with dignity and independence.
- £100 a day of training - The staff at Saint Francis Hospice are trained to the highest level possible and we continue to set the standard of care that others across the country aspire to. An extensive education programme not only keeps our staff fully up to date but enables us to train other health and social care staff in the community.
- £250 - a day at our Day Hospice. A weekly day hospice visit is a lifeline for patients who need regular, specialist palliative care but do not require to come and stay in the inpatient unit. Along with receiving medical care they can access our specialist therapists in counselling, complementary therapies, chaplaincy or just relax and enjoy a chat with others undergoing the same experience. While we care for them their carers’ have a chance to have a break from caring for someone with a life limiting illness.
- £500 - a day of inpatient care. Contrary to popular belief many of our patients in the in patient unit go home. They come in to be assessed, have their medication amended or to receive specialist care to enable them to continue living at home. Of course, we also care for those who choose to end their days in our specialist palliative care beds and your fundraising will ensure that 500 people a year will receive our inpatient care.
