Spaces available in Dublin Marathon

Saint Francis Hospice is offering dedicated runners the chance to complete the Dublin Marathon – internationally known as the “Friendly Marathon”. The charity has five spaces available for the 26.2 mile route, which winds through Dublin’s historic streets, and takes place on Monday 31 October 2011.

Over 10,000 runners are expected to take part, and you could be one of them. Kevin Childs, from Hornchurch, is a member of the Saint Francis Hospice running team. This year he is running the London Marathon, Santathon, has just signed up to the Dublin Marathon. He is running in memory of his mother-in-law, who sadly died in the hospice last June.

He said: “.Without a shadow of a doubt, the hospice has made a huge difference to my family. It’s not just about the care at the time, it’s the aftercare as well, they never let you leave feeling that you’re on your own. They have helped the immediate family as well as my mother-in-law’s grandchildren, they make sure that everybody is comfortable and catered for. Saint Francis Hospice is there for a very valid reason, and I am trying to repay them for their support.”

Hospice fundraiser Lauren Josman said: “What better way to finish a marathon then by sipping on a pint of Guinness? We are really excited to offer these spaces for this fantastic marathon - it really has a great reputation. This year Saint Francis Hospice needs £7.4 million to continue providing its services to people living with a life limiting illness across your community, so why not get your running shoes on and get behind your local hospice!”
