South Weald Ladies Fellowship inspired by hospice fundraisers

It takes a special person to be a fundraiser and at Saint Francis Hospice our fundraisers play an invaluable role in spreading awareness of the work we do and inspiring the community to help raise the £21,000 it needs every day to provide its specialist care and support services.

Andy Furneaux and Michelle Hughes-Gage are part of the fundraising team and they are passionate about hospice care and the difference it makes to patients and their families.

When they were invited along to the South Weald Ladies Fellowship in September to talk about the extensive services it provides at the hospice and in the community, members were so impressed that many signed up to its lottery fundraising initiative and bought hospice merchandise.

And that's not all! Members made donations and the Treasurer wrote out a cheque for £50 on the strength of what she heard that evening.   Members of South Weald Ladies Fellowship

Diane Cole, who is the Programme Secretary at the South Weald Ladies Fellowship, said, "They were fabulous and really brought out the best in people.

"I felt inspired. I came home on an absolute high. It was such a lovely evening and I learned so much about the hospice.

"I did not realise that the hospice cared for people with illnesses such as Parkinson's and Alzheimer's and that was a real eye opener."

Mrs Cole, who has been involved in the Fellowship for more than 30 years, said the charity had looked after the husbands and relatives of several members and it would continue to support it in the future.

The South Weald Ladies Fellowship meets on the fourth Wednesday of every month at 8pm at South Weald Parish Hall in Brentwood where there will be a guest speaker invited to talk to members.

Anyone interested in coming along to join the friendly group, enjoy a chat and meet new people, will be made very welcome.
