Syringe Pump Training

This study day is aimed at qualified nurses who are required to set up syringe pumps and monitor them for symptom control and end of life care. Students who are interested in learning about syringe pumps may also find it useful. The day is suitable for staff with limited experience of syringe pumps and for those with experience who require an update.
What will I study?
- Teaching and hands-on sessions in setting up the subcutaneous McKinley T34/ BD Bodyguard T syringe pumps
- Indications for the rationale behind using a syringe pump
- Site choice, monitoring of infusion and troubleshooting
- An understanding of commonly used medications in syringe pumps for symptom management
- Quiz considering simple conversion ratios of oral to subcutaneous opioids
- Learning outcomes
- Completion of classroom competencies
- Greater confidence in setting up and monitoring syringe pumps
- Increased knowledge in medications used in syringe pumps for symptom management
