'Connectedness is an antidote to loneliness'

Working at Saint Francis Hospice is a privilege and my role as a counsellor with the Family support team is truly rewarding.

Our bereavement service offers support to people whose loved one has died under our care and strives to help people come to terms with all the feelings and emotions that bereavement can present.

Grief often feels isolating and I believe an antidote to loneliness is connectedness.

Wednesday saw the annual day out for people who have attended one of our bereavement groups (including our walking group) over the past year.  We took a coach from the hospice and enjoyed a 2 hour cruise on the river Lee.

It was a beautiful day, the sun shone eventually and the buzz of 30 people connecting was lovely, we were treated to a ploughman's lunch as we marvelled at the manicured lawns and immaculate houses that flank the river.  After the river cruise ice-creams were enjoyed and a few of us took a walk along the canal path.

We all enjoyed a very special day together and on the return journey I asked the group to share their thoughts on a post it note, I have included a sample of them above.

If you would like information on any of our groups please visit the Family support team page, if you would rather speak to one of our team please call 01708-753319.
