Walking for Nanny - Brenda's Babes
For many people who've had a loved one cared for by Saint Francis Hospice getting involved with our fundraising events is a way of honouring the memory of that special person - this is Angela's story
My mum, Brenda was diagnosed with IPF (Idopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis) and after an 18 month battle with this incurable disease she sadly passed away on April 1st after spending the last 9 weeks of her life at the hospice.
The care & support given to not only her but the whole family was just amazing.
My daughter Emily and nieces Lauren & Lucy wanted to do something to show their appreciation for the help given to us all and the Star Walk was the perfect event so we formed Brenda's Babes and registered. We were joined on the day by Ingrid & Gabriela, my brothers girlfriend & daughter and because everyone was doing it even my brother, Stephen ambled around with us!
Sadly my son Jamie & Dad, Ken, were not able to take part due to the time of the event however they were there at the start cheering us on!
The walk itself was fantastic, the girls were all in onesies, a turtle, a minion & a purple cow which was fine for during the event but certainly got some strange looks as we walked alone to the start line!
The atmosphere was brilliant, from the cars passing and tooting support to the delighted cheers of all the girls taking part to the songs that were sung as we walked. A really fun night raising money & awareness for the most wonderful charity.
At first we set our fund raising target at £200 but after only a week had surpassed it so we raised it to £400. Again with the generosity of family, friends & my work colleagues we were soon over that. Our final target was set at £500, however our total is currently standing at £655!
Saint Francis Hospice appreciates the support and efforts of all our fundraising families, we admire your courage and value your contribution.
