Grandfather wins £6,000 golden ticket in summer raffle

Grandfather Edward Wadsworth bought tickets in our summer raffle because he wanted to support the charity that cared for his beloved wife.

But it turned out that Edward also had the golden ticket and won £6,000.

"It was a wonderful surprise and so unexpected," said Edward, a former engineer from Brentwood.

"One supports worthwhile organisations in the thought the money will go to a great cause and you are never going to be a lucky winner."

In September last year our Community Nurse Specialists and Hospice at Home team fulfilled Edward's wife Josephine's wishes to be looked after at home with her family by her side.

Edward said the team ensured Josephine was comfortable and they also provided great support to the family during the last weeks of her life.

"It is valued that Saint Francis Hospice shows great dedication and compassion in their work," said Edward.

Edward plans to donate some of his winnings back to the Hospice and to share his good fortune with his family.

And he wasn't the only lucky winner - There was a second prize of £1,000, a third prize of £500 and three people are now the owners of a new Apple iPad following our Fast Response draw.
