Sister's step up for 5k Santa run in memory of grandad

Two schoolgirls will be paying a very special tribute to their grandad when they dress up in their Santa suits and run 5k for Saint Francis Hospice next month.

Charlotte, 7, and Zoe, 6, from Dagenham, along with their parents Angela Burns, 41, and Richard Pipe, 41, are excited to be joining hundreds of runners who will be taking part in the hospice's annual Santathon on Sunday, December 10th.

And as they make their way around the route they will be remembering Richard's father Richie Pipe who was cared for by the hospice before he died of cancer in 2002.

"I think the kids will really enjoy it," said Angela.

"They never got to meet their grandfather but they know about him and were really glad we were doing the Santathon for him.   Front L-R Charlotte and Zoe, back Richard and Angie Resized

"The hospice made such a difference to Richie and the family. They made sure he was comfortable and that took a lot of pressure off us.

"This is the first event we've ever taken part in and we are looking forward to dressing up as Santa and doing it as a family."

The fun run starts and finishes at Dagenham and Redbridge football ground and this year West Ham and England legend Sir Trevor Brooking CBE will be there to launch  the fundraising event and cheer the runners on.
