Julie and Gary Ridpath, who only signed up to the Saint Francis Hospice lottery earlier this year, couldn't believe their luck when they won the roll over prize of £2,500.

"We are absolutely over the moon," said Julie, 49, from Rainham.

"Saint Francis Hospice is a charity that I believe in and I signed up because it is a cause dear to my heart."

"It is around our anniversary when we start thinking about the people we have lost since we got married," said the mother of two.

"The care my mum received at the hospice was amazing.

"Although it was an awful time it was nice to know there was always someone there who had experience and was able to tell you what to do and what to expect.

"It really was a god send."

Julie and Gary celebrated their anniversary with a break in Norfolk and she believes her winnings might well have been a present from above.

"That's my mum," she added. "She made sure I got something for my anniversary."
