Double birthday treat as couple win £1,000 on hospice lottery
A lucky couple won will be celebrating their birthdays in style after winning £1,000 on the Saint Francis Hospice lottery.
Suzanne Higgs, 69, signed up to the fundraising initiative after one of the charity's ambassadors called at her home and told her about the hospice, which supports around 4,000 people affected by life limiting illness every year.
"I am absolutely thrilled," said Suzanne from Hornchurch (pictured).
"Winning was something I had never given a thought.
"I play the lottery because I want to support the hospice and although we don't know anyone who has needed it, we know what fantastic work it does."
Suzanne, who has just celebrated her birthday, said her husband Gordon will be celebrating his 70th birthday later this month, so they are looking forward to spoiling themselves and their family.
"We are going out for a meal for Gordon's birthday and we are having a little party," Suzanne added.
"I will also be treating our daughter and my sister's grandchildren."
David Holmes, Head of Individual Giving at Saint Francis Hospice said: "Thanks to our regular players like Suzanne our lottery raises hundreds of thousands of pounds to help fund our nurses and doctors.
Each number in the weekly Saint Francis Hospice lottery costs £1 and you can have up to 20 numbers. In addition to the guaranteed weekly first prize of £1,000, 10 lucky winners each get £10 and there is a rollover second prize in the draw to be made on 23rd October of £6,000.
Earlier this year a lucky woman from Brentwood won £24,500 on our rollover! You can sign up to the hospice lottery online here or call 01708 771433."
