More than 30 members of Thrift Green Trotters took part in the race while a further 100 members got involved by handing out water at the 9 and 12 mile drinking stations along the route.

The members reunited after the event at The Brentwood Centre to celebrate their achievements by setting off on an evening run before relaxing and sharing their experiences.

Brian Harding, chairman of the club said: "It was a great day and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it. For those who did not run they were out on the course helping to keep up the London Marathon's International reputation. They are all heroes."

The Thrift Green Trotters supported Saint Francis Hospice by giving 11 club places to its runners, who raised almost £11,000.

"We are very grateful to the Thrift Green Trotters for allocating club places to the hospice," said Katy Woodgate, Interim Events & Community Manager at the hospice.

"Without their support and the support of other runners and clubs like them we would not be able to achieve the £80,000 we expect to raise from the London Marathon."
