Janet, who previously worked for Havering Council providing services for people with learning disability, was delighted with her win. "I've never won anything before," she said.

"We've had premium bonds for 50 years and neither of us has won anything on them!" added her husband David.

The mother of three adult children, including identical twin girls, signed up to play two numbers on the lottery after meeting one of the hospice's Ambassadors in the Baytree shopping centre in Brentwood.

"I knew about the hospice because the sister of a good friend of mine was cared for by the hospice," said Janet (pictured).

"I was so excited when I received the cheque that I took a picture of it and sent to my son who lives in America. I don't know what I'll spend it on but I've already told the children that it will be treats all round," said Janet.

David Holmes, Head of Individual Giving at Saint Francis Hospice said: "Thanks to our regular players like Janet the lottery raises hundreds of thousands of pounds to help fund our nurses and doctors.

Each number in the weekly Saint Francis Hospice lottery costs £1 and you can have up to 20 numbers. In addition to the guaranteed weekly first prize of £1,000, 10 lucky winners each get £10 and there is a rollover second prize of £1,500 in the draw to be made on May 27th.

Last year a lucky woman from Brentwood won £24,500 on our rollover! You can sign up to the hospice lottery at www.sfh.org.uk/lottery or call 01708 771433."
