Volunteer in our charity shops

Think volunteering for a charity shop means standing around in an empty, dusty shop?

Think again.

Our 15 Saint Francis Hospice charity shops are busy, bustling and rewarding places to volunteer. Our volunteers are the backbone of our charity shops - which turnover £2m a year - and a fundamental part of our success. So whether you have a couple of hours a fortnight to spare or five full working days, you can rest assured that you'll be joining a highly valued team - and you'll be making a big difference to a local charity.

What do your charity shops sell?

We have a variety of shops, some specialising in furniture, electrical goods and wedding gear, others a more classic offering of clothes, toys, books and accessories. All of our shops have been refurbished in the past few years, so they're bright, light, modern and airy places to be. Pop in and see if you want to make sure!

What jobs do your volunteers do?

The roles within our shops vary, so you could serve customers, sort through the donations, create eye catching window displays, pick out items to sell on eBay, PAT test our electrical shop items, work on our online Amazon store or steam our clothes to add value. We try our best to accommodate skill sets and interests, so do let us know where your preferences lie.

What sort of people volunteer for the Saint Francis Hospice charity shops?
You'll be placed in a friendly team of individuals with ages ranging from sixth form students up to retired people in their 80s and 90s. One thing will connect you all - that's a commitment to an important local charity.

Do I need to have experience?

No. You will be provided with full training, including an induction at Saint Francis Hospice so you understand the charity we support. It's a role suitable for people in a whole range of situations, including people currently out of work looking to embellish their CV, sixth form students wishing to gain vital experience to help with employment, and retired people looking to use their spare time wisely. What we do ask for is enthusiasm and a willingness to learn!

What if I don't have much free time?

We'd like to hear from you whether you have a couple of hours free on a Thursday afternoon or want to volunteer 9-5, every day of the week. We understand that many of you will be squeezing us in around other commitments, so we will do our best to accommodate your availability.
