Are you a natural communicator with a passion for community engagement and making a real difference?

Saint Francis Hospice is seeking an energetic and creative Communications Officer to join our dynamic Communications and Community Engagement team. This is a fast-paced and rewarding role that places you right at the heart of our efforts to raise awareness and build meaningful connections across the diverse communities we serve.

Saint Francis Hospice is an expert provider of outstanding palliative and end-of-life care, for over 40 years serving a population of nearly 1 million, spread across Barking and Dagenham, Brentwood, Havering, Redbridge, and parts of West Essex.

About the Role

As Communications Officer, you'll be a key player in developing and delivering engaging content and campaigns that support our vision of ensuring the best care for all at the end of life. Working both from the hospice and out in the community, you will represent the hospice at events, in local spaces, and through various communication channels to grow our profile locally, regionally, and nationally.

A major focus of the role is engaging with underserved communities in Barking & Dagenham and Redbridge, helping to reduce health inequalities and increase access to our care. You'll need to travel regularly across our catchment area to listen, share, and connect – putting Saint Francis Hospice at the heart of the communities that need us most.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build strong relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders to drive engagement and collaboration.
  • Deliver clear, creative, and impactful communications across a range of platforms (digital, print, face-to-face).
  • Represent Saint Francis Hospice at community events and in public spaces to raise awareness and promote timely access to our services.
  • Contribute to campaigns and content that align with our strategic goals and reflect the diversity of our audience.
  • Work with colleagues to identify and address barriers to care in underserved populations.

About You

We’re looking for someone who is:

  • A confident communicator and networker with excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Passionate about equity in healthcare and community outreach.
  • Proactive, organised, and able to manage multiple priorities in a fast-moving environment.
  • Experienced in creating content and communications for a range of audiences.
  • Willing and able to travel regularly across our service area.

What We Offer

  • A chance to be part of a passionate and supportive team who are making a genuine impact.
  • A flexible arrangement offering hybrid working, both at home and at the hospice, with a minimum of two days at the main hospice site in Havering-atte-Bower.
  • Opportunities for personal and professional development.
  • A collaborative, inclusive working environment that values creativity and initiative.

Join us at Saint Francis Hospice and help make sure everyone in our community has access to the care they deserve, when they need it most.

Please note that a DBS (Disclosure & Barring Service) basic criminal record check will be undertaken as part of our pre-employment screening for the successful candidate.
