Mental Health and Palliative Care

Education Centre
The day is designed for all healthcare professionals who work with people with mental health illness (including Dementia) and their families/carers. The increased prevalence of life-limiting illness in those with mental health problems especially in a younger client group and the growing number of people who may develop mental health issues as a result makes it vital to look at these challenges and how palliative care could be provided for them. The day will feature workshop style sessions, discussions and formal presentations.

What will I study:
- Recognising and managing delirium
- Discovering ways to differentiate between delirium, depression and dementia
- Challenges working with neurological conditions
- Developing resilience when working with younger people facing a life-limiting illness
- Influence of culture and religion on end of life care
- The challenges of providing care for people who are opiate-dependent
