Andrew Davenport has a long association with Essex County Cricket Club spanning over five decades, since first becoming interested in cricket from the age of nine. He worked at the Essex County Cricket ground as a score board operator for 35 years.

Andrew has been a member of Essex County Cricket Club since the early 1970’s and is now a life member. Cricket is his passion and his life, and he wanted to fulfill his wish to attend a cricket match one last time in view of his limited life expectancy.

I contacted Essex County cricket club's Deputy Director Dan Feist and he arranged for Andrew and his sister Kate to have a special day out at one of their matches.

Andrew attended on 24th June and had a wonderful day. He was accorded the special privilege of ringing the bell to start the game. He sent me the attached picture of him doing this.

His sister emailed me to say they had the most amazing day, and it was a once in a lifetime experience - this is why I do my job!
