The money will be used to help fund the Hospice's Specialist Community and Crisis Support Service, including the role of one of its Community Nurse Specialists, Katy Chelchowska, for a second year.

Katy and the SCCS team care and support patients in the community and via its specialist advice telephone line, which is available to patients, families, carers and health professionals 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Last year the Trust raised £40,000 by hosting a fundraising ball and decided to up its donation to an incredible £100,000 in order to fund two Clinical Nurse Specialists posts.

And in February 2016, which was a leap year, the Trust donated £21,000 to cover the cost of care for the extra day.

"It is a rare thing to come across a group of philanthropic people like the trustees and supporters of The YJS Trust," said Anne.

"We are so grateful for their support - their donations continue to make a huge difference to hundreds of local people facing the end of their life or that of a loved one.

"The funds provide tangible, compassionate care via our Clinical Nurse Specialists in order to make the end of life's journey as comfortable and dignified as possible for people throughout our community.

"This is truly invaluable."
