Patients featured in Channel 5 News series on end of life care.

Saint Francis Hospice and our patients were featured in a series of special reports on Channel 5's evening news bulletins surrounding dying and end of life care.
Channel 5 filming in the day therapy unit
The filming, which took place in early June, included members of our 'This is your life' group, run by Sue Spong from the Family Support Team. Patients, including Joyce Ansell and Maggie Aylward spoke openly about death and their wishes - something we'd like to applaud them for.

The piece formed part of a week long special from the broadcaster titled 'The Last Taboo', aiming to tackle a range of issues including reduced statutory funding for hospices, palliative care training in hospitals and where people prefer to die. At Saint Francis Hospice we are keen to encourage conversation around a dying, as we know it's a topic so many people find difficult to approach. It's also important to highlight the role hospices play in end of life care in the UK - so we were delighted to be included in this series.

Thank you to everyone who contributed - including those who didn't make the cut. Your time, patience and openness is hugely appreciated.
