Saint Francis Hospice Band spreads festive cheer with Christmas Concert

Music lovers are being invited to kick off the festive season in style as the Saint Francis Hospice Band Christmas Concert returns for a special evening of entertainment in support of Saint Francis Hospice.
Taking place on Tuesday 15 December from 7.30pm to 9.45pm at Brandon Grove Community Centre, in South Ockendon, the concert promises a varied programme featuring the 50-strong symphonic concert band, guest singers, seven soloists and a saxophone quintet.
Formed in March this year, the Saint Francis Hospice Band has quickly built a strong following, with audiences embracing its performances and fundraising efforts. The Christmas concert will showcase a wide range of music, from classic rock favourites and songs from The Phantom of the Opera and Les Misérables to a festive second half packed with seasonal favourites.
Audiences can look forward to performances of Leroy Anderson's Christmas Festival and Sleigh Ride, alongside festive hits from Slade and Wizzard and a selection of traditional Christmas classics.
"As we approach the end of our first year, I am amazed by how far we have come in such a short space of time and we are amazed at the interest we've had in the two Christmas concerts taking place year," said Paul Binder, founder and Musical Director of the band.
"The band is incredibly proud to represent Saint Francis Hospice and build on the success of our debut concert. We hope the music we have chosen will be uplifting, bring people together and ensure everyone leaves feeling fully in the Christmas spirit."
The band is on track to raise more than £10,000 for the hospice during its first year, helping to support the charity's specialist palliative and end-of-life care services for local people and their families.
Looking ahead, the band has also been selected to perform at London's Regent Hall in February 2027 as part of the Spring Brass Arts Festival. The performance will include a special collaboration with the Saint Francis Hospice Choir, marking the first time the two groups have performed together.
"Saint Francis Hospice means a great deal to all of us in the band," said Paul.
"Every ticket purchased and every donation helps support local people and their families at some of the most difficult times in their lives. We are looking forward to sharing a wonderful evening of music with our audiences and raising even more funds for the hospice."
