Saint Francis Hospice hosted a very special party on the ward to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee at the weekend.

As some patients, visitors, staff and volunteers at Saint Francis Hospice weren't able to attend the street parties to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee, the hospice made sure everyone on the ward didn't miss the chance to be part of the historic occasion.

"It really was a very special day," said Jan Scott, Service Transformation Manager at Saint Francis Hospice.

"We were able to provide a beautiful cream tea, sandwiches and scones to all the patients on the ward, along with their visitors and the staff and volunteers.

"One of our patients was able to enjoy the special day with her sister who had travelled from Australia to be with her.

"There was so much laughter and fun. Our fundraiser Andy Furneaux really lifted everyone's spirits by playing some great music and everyone who was able, stood for our national anthem God Save the Queen."

A very special thank you to Redbridge Council for funding the event so patients didn't have to miss out on the celebrations.

The community raises money for Saint Francis Hospice

In the community, there were lots of celebrations and many people took the opportunity to raise awareness and funds for Saint Francis Hospice.

On Sunday, residents from the Anchor Retirement Village joined with their neighbours living on the Barnardos Garden Village to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee on the Village Green at the heritage site in Barkingside.

There was a wide variety of food stalls, fancy dress and face painting as well as full programme of entertainment.

Andy was there to entertain with lively music and the Mayor of Redbridge, Cllr Thavathuray Jeyaranjan together with Ilford North MP Wes Streeting also joined in the fun.

"With all proceeds being donated to the Hospice it was a simply amazing and memorable day enjoyed by everyone," said Rita Gersh, one of the event organisers.
