Ann's final poem

Ann Deller
Written by: Tash Berbank
One of our patients, Ann Deller, recently passed away after staying at the Hospice for two months. But since 2020, she received emotional support from our counsellor Sue Spong, who helped her with the difficult emotions she was feeling after her diagnosis.

Ann had been a keen poet her entire adult life, and Sue encouraged her to use poetry as a way to express how she felt.

Before her death, she wrote one last poem, about her experience of the care she received at the Hospice. Her family have kindly shared this with us, in her memory.

Saint Francis Hospice is heaven, the only place I want to be,
Throughout this horror story they have always been with me,
They have been my constant, my support, my guide,
Every single moment, right there by my side,
Now here I am-my second stay, I count my blessings every day,
I am cocooned in love and peace,
Now I’m safe-oh such a relief,
I hope I sleep here very soon,
And drift away up to the moon.

Saint Francis Hospice - I love you all.
