Hospice offers new Redbridge Bereavement Service

With over 40 years’ experience supporting individuals, families, loved ones and communities through death, dying and bereavement, Saint Francis Hospice is proud to be extending its bereavement support to people living across Redbridge.
The Redbridge Bereavement Support Service, commissioned by NHS North East London, will free provide compassionate, accessible and high-quality bereavement support for adults, children, young people and families, recognising that grief affects everyone differently and can have a profound impact on emotional wellbeing.
Through a combination of one-to-one counselling, family and individual support, group interventions and community-based provision, we will ensure people receive the right support at the right time.
A community bereavement service
As Shahina Haque, Family Support Services Manager at Saint Francis Hospice, explains, “Redbridge is home to diverse communities, and we recognise that experiences of death, grief and bereavement, and the ways in which people seek support, can be shaped by culture, faith, family and community. We are therefore committed to listening to local communities and developing a service that is culturally responsive, inclusive and accessible.”
At the heart of the service is a community-first, inclusive model of care. We will work closely with local partners including GPs, schools, voluntary organisations and faith groups to ensure the service is culturally responsive, accessible and embedded within Redbridge.
“We are committed to reducing health inequalities, improving mental wellbeing and supporting people to navigate grief in a way that is personal to them, helping to build resilience and prevent longer-term impacts such as isolation, anxiety and depression,” said Shahina.
The service is now open
The service launched on 15 June 2026 and is now receiving referrals and providing bereavement counselling to Redbridge residents. We look forward to working alongside the people and communities of Redbridge to make a meaningful difference to those experiencing bereavement.
Support is provided in different languages. To access free support, email bv@sfh.org.uk or call 01708 753 319.
