Saint Francis Hospice - Financial Statement - June 2026

At Saint Francis Hospice, our mission is to ensure everyone in our community has access to outstanding end-of-life care when they need it most. Over the past year, we are proud to have supported more people than ever before, reaching further into our communities and continuing to innovate in how we deliver care. However, like many hospices across the country, we are now facing significant financial challenges.
While our income has remained resilient, the cost of delivering care has risen sharply. Increasing pressures such as inflation, higher utility and supplier costs, National Insurance increases and wider pay pressures across the sector mean our costs are growing faster than our income. This is being felt across the hospice sector, and we are not immune to these challenges.
We have strong foundations, and thanks to the continued generosity of our community, we have been able to grow our income and support more people. But we must now take further action to ensure we remain sustainable for the future and can continue to be there for those who need us.
This year, we are working hard to deliver £1 million in savings. We are doing this by looking carefully at how we work, reducing non-essential spending, strengthening cost control and finding more efficient ways to operate. This includes reviewing structures, improving processes and focusing our resources where they make the greatest difference.
Our focus throughout is clear: protecting frontline care. We are committed to avoiding cuts to the services people and their loved ones rely on wherever possible. By working differently and embracing innovation, we are freeing up more time for care, reducing administrative burden and enabling our teams to continue delivering compassionate, high-quality care and support.
At the same time, support from our community has never been more important. We rely on the generosity of our supporters to fund the majority of our services, with just 32% of our funds received from the Government. Shopping in our charity shops, donating, participating in our events, fundraising or simply spreading the word all play a vital role in helping us continue our work.
While the environment is challenging, we remain positive, determined and focused on the future. By taking action now, working together and continuing to build on the strengths of our organisation, we are confident we can secure a sustainable future for Saint Francis Hospice and continue to provide the care our community depends on.
