Dying Matters Awareness Week 2026 - Let’s talk about death and dying

Dying Matters Awareness Week is a national initiative that encourages communities to open up conversations about death, dying and bereavement in ways that feel comfortable to them. In 2026, the week takes place from Monday 4th to Sunday 10th May, with this year’s theme: “Talking about Dying Matters”.
The theme focuses on breaking down stigma and helping people start these important conversations. Research shows that 27% of people find it difficult to talk about death with family or friends, while 30% say they bottle up their feelings instead.
When we avoid talking about death, dying and bereavement, it can make it harder to cope when we experience loss or a life-limiting illness. These conversations, although sometimes uncomfortable, can make a real difference, helping people feel more prepared, supported and understood.

We’re out in the community
As part of Dying Matters Awareness Week 2026, we will also be out and about in the local community, offering information, advice and support.
You can find us at:
- Thursday 7th May, 9am–12pm - in partnership with Bennetts Funeral Directors, Brentwood Library
- Friday 8th May, 10am–3pm - Baytree Centre, Brentwood, for Brentwood Borough Council’s Healthy High Street Day, where we’ll be out in the community vehicle, joint by other trusted, local organisations.
This is an opportunity to drop by, ask questions and connect with the support available to you and your loved one
This Dying Matters Awareness Week, we encourage everyone to take a moment to think about how we talk about death and dying and to start those conversations in a way that feels right for you.
