In Memory of Jamie - Three Peaks Challenge for Saint Francis Hospice

Friends and colleagues of Jamie are taking on the Three Yorkshire Peaks Challenge on 13th June to raise money for Saint Francis Hospice, in memory of a truly special person who meant so much to so many people.
Jamie was one of a kind. As a friend, colleague, and person, he was warm, generous, funny, and incredibly talented. He had a natural ability to bring people together and make them feel at ease, often with his quick wit and sense of humour. Creativity seemed to come effortlessly to him. He was an outstanding actor and a gifted musician who could play piano, saxophone, guitar, drums, and more. There aren’t many characters like Jamie, and we feel genuinely lucky to have known him.

We wanted to take on a challenge in his memory that felt meaningful and reflected something he would have loved to be part of. The Three Yorkshire Peaks Challenge felt like the perfect fit, something demanding but achievable as a team, and a chance for us to come together in the way Jamie always encouraged.
Saint Francis Hospice holds a very special place in our hearts. The care and compassion shown to Jamie during his time there left a lasting impression on all of us. Not only was the clinical care exceptional, but the whole environment felt calm and comforting. The hospice itself is set in beautiful surroundings, and the gardens, meticulously cared for, offered a peaceful space for both Jamie and those visiting him.

The team at the hospice went above and beyond to support Jamie and his loved ones. They were incredibly accommodating, welcoming the many friends and family who came to spend time with him, and even making it possible for people to stay overnight on occasion. They created an environment that felt as much like home as possible. True to himself, Jamie also found moments of enjoyment there. We know he appreciated the drinks trolley and the breakfasts!
Preparing for the challenge has been positive overall, although it hasn’t been without its challenges. As a group, we’re spread across the country, so opportunities to train together have been limited. Even so, the shared purpose has kept us connected, and every bit of preparation has felt like a step towards doing something meaningful in Jamie’s honour.
There are countless memories of Jamie that will stay with us during the challenge. On a personal level, one of the things I’ll be thinking about most is the time we spent growing up, quoting films and TV shows together, something that always brought laughter and highlighted his sense of humour and creativity.
As a team, we’re hoping to complete the challenge within a reasonable time, but more importantly, we want to raise awareness, about cancer, about the incredible work hospices do, and about the importance of supporting them. Taking on this challenge has also been a moment for reflection. It has reminded us not to take life for granted, and of the importance of looking after our health. In many ways, the training itself feels like something Jamie would have encouraged and appreciated.

Hospice care is something many of us hope we never have to think about, but when the time comes, it becomes invaluable. Knowing that there is a place where loved ones can receive compassionate care in a comfortable and supportive environment makes an immeasurable difference during the most difficult times. It helps relieve some of the pressure and allows families to focus on what really matters: being together.
If there’s one thing we’d ask, it’s for people to support hospice care wherever they can. And if you’d like to support our challenge directly, please consider sharing or donating via our fundraising page:
