A team of school children crossed the iconic London Marathon finish line to raise funds for Saint Francis Hospice.

This was the third year Joshua, 10, Danilo, 11, and Isabelle, 10, ran the TCS Mini London Marathon and they were joined by fellow year six pupil Jack.

The event took place on Saturday 26th April ?" the day before the iconic 26.2 mile challenge ?" started at Horse Guards Parade in Central London and finished at The Mall.

The children, who attend Clockhouse Primary School in Collier Row, were raising money in memory of a mum who was cared for by Saint Francis Hospice before she sadly died.

Their school friend Hashim wasn’t able to run as planned but he joined in the fundraising too.

“I’m so proud of the children,” said Joshua’s mum, Fiona Denning.

“They had such a great day. The atmosphere was so nice. We even went back up the next day to cheer on the main marathon runners!

“They always enjoy taking part. It is such a lovely experience as they actually run along part the London Marathon route. The streets were lined and people came out to cheer them on. It was really emotional to see.

“It means a lot to the children as their teachers also came along to support them too.”

Over the past two years, the children have raised £2,400 for people who need hospice care, and they are hoping to raise as much money as they can again this year.

“This will be the last time the children take part as they are off to secondary school in September, but Joshua has already told me he plans to continue fundraising for the hospice.

“He’s a huge football fan and he was delighted when he saw West Ham players wearing the same t-shirt with the hospice logo that he wears, and they were supporting the hospice too.”
